You can count on our team to help care for your vision when you need it most. Don’t assume a problem goes away on its own—a visit to the optometrist can help protect your eye health.
Please visit your nearest emergency room if you experience an eye emergency outside our office hours.
What Is an Eye Emergency?
An eye emergency can be many things, but it’s typically any time your eye health or vision is at risk. Something as small as a scratch on your eye can lead to significant complications, making eye care essential for protecting your ocular health. We recommend our patients visit us for an assessment whenever they experience eye pain or redness.
Examples of common eye emergencies include:
- Blunt trauma
- Burns
- Chemical exposure
- Cuts
- Foreign objects in the eye
- Scratches
Your eyesight is precious, so never ignore signs of a problem—your eyes can become easily damaged.
What to Do During an Eye Emergency
Park Slope Eye spends the time during your eye exam dedicated to you and your needs. Attending your regularly scheduled eye exams is part of your overall wellness, and can help protect your eyes from damage that could be preventable.
The American Optometric Association recommends:
- Adults ages 18–64 attend eye exams at least every 2 years
- Adults 65 & over attend exams every year
- Adults at a higher risk of developing vision issues or eye diseases may require a more frequent exam schedule
Adults with diabetes should attend yearly eye exams, or as recommended by their optometrist
